Sinarmas Forestry (SMF) located in Sumatera and Kalimantan islands of Indonesia is the exclusive pulpwood fiber supplier to APP's two pulp mills.

As a socially and environmentally responsible company, SMF takes a holistic approach to sustainable forest management ensuring the legality, traceability and the sustainability of their wood supply.

SMF is committed to the principles behind sustainable forestry, and to ensure the sustainability of their pulp and paper material SMF expands its pulpwood plantation through the planting and nurturing of fast-growing species on land licensed by the Government of Indonesia.

SMF is continually researching and developing advanced technologies to increase its fiber yield in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way.

The most popular species used for pulpwood fiber are Acacia mangium, Acacia crassicarpa,and Eucalyptus pellita. SMF Research and Development team carries out extensive research into other native and alternative species such as Anthocepalus cadamba, Cratoxyllum sp, Dyera costulata, Eugenia sp, Fragraea crenatula, Hibiscus similes, Khaya anthotheca, Lophopetalum multinervium, Shorea leprosula, Shorea selanica, etc, to assess the impact they would have on the ecosystem and establish whether they would be suitable as fiber sources.
